5 MUSICIANS YOU SHOULD CARE MORE ABOUT

There are plenty of undiscovered talents hidden within the depths of the internet. Even some that are known by a few still don’t often get the recognition they really deserve. In an attempt to do my part in supporting incredible musicians, I thought I’d highlight five that I’m digging at the moment who are absolutely incredible, and worth a listen or two.

1. KEVIN (K.O.) OLUSOLA

You might recognize Kevin as one fifth of acapella sensation Pentatonix, but what you might not know is that K.O. is an AMAZING cellist. He is the beatboxer for the group, but he does incredible videos of himself covering popular songs on cello (and sometimes he even beatboxes at the same time). BEATBOXING AND CELLO AT ONCE GUYS. Check out this video of his cover of Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack”. It is leagues better than the original. Trust me on this one.

2) MARQUES TOLIVER

I wrote about Marques Toliver a while back, here, and I still am obsessed with him. I think I have a thing for men who play classical instruments. He’s got an incredible voice and such a powerful presence. Here is a live version of his song “Deep In My Heart” that he filmed with The Mahogany Blog (one of my favorite online music sources). It’s beautiful.

3) MODERAT

Okay, this one’s a little more well known. This incredible collab project between Sascha Ring (of Apparat) and Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary (Of Modeselektor) is nothing less than awesome. A little funky, a little German, and a lot catchy, this project is one of my favorite artist collabs. Their newest album, II, is amazing. Here’s my favorite track:

4) MATT CORBY

Runner up of Australian Idol’s fourth season, singer/songwriter Matt Corby flew relatively under my American radar. I discovered him recently and he’s awesome. To me, he sounds like Civil Twilight, but maybe I’m going crazy. I don’t know. Regardless, Corby’s music is incredible. He has a great voice and really great lyrics. Also, his falsetto is unbelievable. Very Ben Howard/Benjamin Francis Leftwich-esque. Ignore this girl’s hair please.

5) KEATON HENSON

Keaton has been a long time favorite of mine. His music is incredibly powerful and his voice is really unique. He’s got an incredible ability to translate vulnerability and insecurity into his vocals. I’ve read that he’s really shy, and hated filming this music video, which I found really interesting. His songs are incredibly meaningful; he writes often of loss and love. Overall an incredibly powerful artist.

I hope you will check some of these guys out; let me know what you think! Have you been listening to anyone lately who deserves a little more recognition?
