Because sometimes you just want to play dress-up.
Now, let me preface this by saying that I’m a fashion appreciator, not a fashion implementer. I’ve always loved style and putting outfits on my friends, but I was never that great at putting outfits on my own body. That said, I can tell you with confidence that the best looks I’ve worn have been those inspired by others. In particular, I love dressing like characters I love. Now we’re not talking orange turtleneck and skirt, Velma-style, but a more subtle inspiration.
Today I’m feeling like a bad bitch, so I’m going to create some looks inspired by some of my favorite TV bad gals.
Firstly, let’s take a look at my gal Audrey Horne.
Basically, Audrey is the personification of the sexy schoolgirl trope. We all want to be her, we fear her, we love her. If you’re in the mood to seduce anyone you see, or channel the confidence of a borderline manipulative psycho, here’s the outfit for you.
The key to this one is cropped sweater + plaid skirt.
The second look is based on one of my favorite recent TV characters. Spencer Hastings is Pretty Little Liars’ brainy prepster, with a penchant for Shakespeare and art. She’s got great outfits, and on days when I feel like I should be doing a little extra studying, I channel Spencer. She’s kind of an unlikely choice for a post about rebels and bad bitches, but honestly she’s been through some serious shit and she literally comes out on top every time. So.
To pull off “The Spencer,” you have to go full on prep.
The final look is based off of one of my all time favorite characters, Mindy Lahiri, from The Mindy Project. She’s a bad bitch in the weirdest possible way. She’s like a totally badass doctor but also a rom-com lover and a party queen. I basically want to just absorb her personality into my body.
Dr. L is known for her crazy, colorful outfits, but I want to highlight her killer casual style.
If you channel any of these awesome ladies, send your girl a tweet with your outfit pic! Happy camouflaging.
