So many feelings for this movie.
This post has been drafted for three days and I haven’t been able to get it just right. I can’t put my finger on what part of this movie affected me the way it did. Regardless, this is an incredible movie, and every single performance was just jarring. I didn’t expect anything out of Bradley Cooper, honestly, but he really blew me away. The one who really stole the show was America’s current sweetheart Jennifer Lawrence. I mean she took the Best Actress award home at the Oscars, which is why I went to see the film in the first place.
This movie is made for a certain group of people, I think. There are the people who love this movie because they can relate to it absurdly well (not necessarily literally), and there are the people who just think the movie has a great story. For some reason I fell into the first category on this one. As you can tell I’m still slightly shaken by this movie, and when I try to pinpoint what was so great I can’t really figure it out. Regardless, this is one of those movies that you just have to see. It falls along the lines of Lost In Translation for me. It’s a character study, and a good one. There is a charming plot line that guides the film along, but all you really care about is what Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert De Niro are doing at all times.
