This soundtrack is perfect. The perfect combination of folk and rock. I’m going to do a track by track review and you can listen to all of the tracks below!  This is worth ten bucks.

1.  Abraham’s Daughter- Arcade Fire. The perfect trance-like march. This song actually plays during the end credits of the movie.

2. Tomorrow Will Be Kinder- The Secret Sisters. One of the many lullaby-esque songs on the album.

3. Nothing To Remember- Neko Case. One of the more lighthearted songs on the album. Seems like something Katniss would listen to while sitting in the meadow with Gale (I’m lame).

4. Safe & Sound- Taylor Swift (feat. The Civil Wars). I could dedicate a whole post to The Civil Wars. I don’t generally like Taylor Swift but this song is beautiful.

5.  The Ruler and the Killer- Kid Cudi. This song is awesome. It’s morbid, dark, and Cudi’s chant-like chorus perfectly fits the mood in the arena.

6. Dark Days- Punch Brothers. The folky melody and droning verses combine to form a sweet song full of beautiful harmonies. The lyrics to this one are also perfect for the movie.

7. One Engine- The Decemberists. This upbeat song almost (I’m gonna get beat for this one) has a Ben Gibbard feel to it. Not gonna lie, when I first heard it I thought it might be Death Cab. But The Decemberists are great as well.

8. Daughter’s Lament- The Carolina Chocolate Drops. Not my usual cup of tea, but it blends perfectly with the book and movie.

9. Kingdom Come- The Civil Wars.  I might be biased just because this song is by the Civil Wars but it is by far my favorite on the whole album.

10. Take The Heartland- Glen Hansard. This is my least favorite track on the album. I love Glen Hansard though, you probably remember him from the film Once (made famous by the song “Falling Slowly”).

11. Come Away To The Water- Maroon 5 (feat Rozzi Crane) . This is a close second favorite with Kingdom Come. This song is fantastic and Adam Levine’s voice, need I say more?

12. Run Daddy Run- Miranda Lambert (feat. Pistol Annies). I really like this song, though I’m not usually a country fan. It works with the movie, and also captures alot of the spirit of the books.

13.  Rules- Jayme Dee. I used to watch this girl’s videos on Youtube all the time! She’s young, twenty at the most, and she makes incredible music. This song is very chill, teen girl, however her voice makes up for any fault in the lyrics.

14. Eyes Open- Taylor Swift. Again, not a huge Taylor fan, but I really do like this song. The lyrics of this obviously convey the theme of the book, but in a very eloquent way. Taylor is impressing me.

15. Lover is Childlike- The Low Anthem. This is another lullaby sounding song, but it’s very pretty. Reminds me a lot of the folk/ singer songwriter movement that is taking over currently. Sounds a bit like if John Mayer were a folk/indie artist.

16. Just a Game- Birdy. Famous for her cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love”, she has a very Florence-esque voice. She’s only 15! Holy crap.

That’s the whole album! It’s pretty fantastic, I highly recommend downloading it. Happy Hunger Games!

In the middle of an existential crisis. If you have one of those super long phone chargers can you send it to me?

  1. I haven’t listened to the album all the way through the end but I think I’ll buy myself a copy. I love the Arcade Fire song and ‘Safe and Sound’. 🙂
