Slowly but surely, I’ve been narrowing my lipstick love down to a five piece must-have collection. No, I didn’t give away the other precious gems, but when I’m in the mood for a lip, if you know what I mean, these are the ones I’m gravitating to.
From top to bottom.
Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Black Dahlia; This is a recent purchase. The price tag on the Tom Ford lippies is enough to terrify even the spendiest of shoppers. It’s a moisturizing matte winey shade, and I’m obsessed. It delivers just the right amount of dark without being too dark for spring. The purple undertone makes it flattering on any skin tone. The only downfall – the gorgeous but smudge-prone packaging.
MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo; Ahh, the classic. This lipstick has been my go-to red for a few years now. Its only flaw is that it’s seriously drying (as are most of the MAC mattes) but the color is so prime that I don’t even care. It’s a beautiful blue-toned red, which makes your teeth look super white, and it’s got a super long-lasting formula. Ringing in at an affordable $16, it’s a must have for any beginner.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita; Lolita has been quite the scandal-prone shade since it’s relaunch with a new formula last year. I believe I have Lolita I (the bottom of my tube just says Lolita, while Lolita II is usually labeled as such), but I really love this shade. I’m wearing it in this video if you want to see it in action, but it’s a super nice liquid lipstick formula; it’s matte but not drying (v rare).
L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Blushing Berry; This is a great affordable mauvey lipstick. I love a good matte lipstick and this is one of the few non-mattes that I love. It has a subtle shine on the lips but it’s not glossy at all. For me, this is a great everyday shade. It’s super moisturizing. It has that strong L’Oreal lipstick scent which I personally love, but if you don’t like that perfumey smell you might not like this one. The L’Oreal lipsticks are nice and inexpensive and some of my favorites from the drugstore.
NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square; These pencils are AMAZING. I have a few shades of them, and I’ve written this one before here but they’re one of my absolute favorite lip products. I think for me, I love when lipsticks are a bit drying – it makes me feel like they’re not going to move around when I’m out at a bar with some upper lip sweat action (gross). But really, this shade is a beautiful bright red-orange, and they apply like a dream thanks to the pencil tip.
There you have it, some of the lippies that make my heart sing. What are your favorites? I’d love to get a good discussion going in the comments.
