So, this past week, I was in New York interviewing at fashion magazines. Awesome, but absolutely terrifying, and of course one of my hugest fears was that I wouldn’t be dressed PERFECTLY. But then I came across this quote:

“Dress like you’ve made something of yourself in the world, even if you haven’t.”

That seemed easy enough. All I had to do was dress like I always imagined I’d dress for my dream career in magazines (cue high-waisted black pants, lacy collared shirt, and nude pumps). But this scenario got me thinking about all the incredible things that those in the fashion world say every day, be it designers, celebrities, or models. These quotes have inspired me, made me look at my closet a little differently, and even made me laugh:

“The best things in life are free. The second best are very expensive.” – Coco Chanel

“Maybe the best any of us can do is not quit, play the hand we’ve been dealt, and accessorize what we’ve got.” -Carrie Bradshaw

“If you can’t be better than your competition, just dress better.”

“A dress makes no sense unless it inspires men to want to take it off you.” – Anna Wintour

“Walk like you have three men walking behind you.” -Oscar de la Renta

“I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little – if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.” – Coco Chanel

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” – Rachel Zoe

“One is never 0ver- or under-dressed with a Little Black Dress.” – Karl Lagerfeld

“Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous, but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing.” – Alexander Wang

“Shoes transform your body language and attitude. They lift you physically and emotionally.” – Christian Louboutin

“I like my money right where I can see it: hanging in my closet.” – Carrie Bradshaw

“I don’t do fashion. I AM fashion.” – Coco Chanel

“Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.” – Lauren Hutton

“In difficult times, fashion is always outrageous.” – Elsa Schiaparelli

“Your dresses should be tight enough to show you’re a woman and loose enough to show you’re a lady.” – Edith Head

“Black and white might be sufficient, but why deprive yourself of color?” – Christian Dior
