You all now have permission to slap me across the face if I ever go so long without posting again. But guess what? I’m blogging about beauty on High Voltage Blog now too! Let’s do the math:
Permission to blog about beauty from good ol’ Miranda + 32 hours trapped in Marie Claire’s beauty closet (hey, I’m not complaining!) each week = a lot, a lot, a lot more posts. And I couldn’t be luckier. Beauty and fashion are my tall glass of water in the desert, my campfire in the winter, my Alexander McQueen on a dull day, my red lipstick when I have no time to do makeup… noticing a trend here?
So, here goes. After many hours of organizing and reorganizing hundreds of summer beauty products, you start to favor a few of them. These, my friends, will be your saviors during the sweaty, oily, sunburned, unshowered days of summer:
Essie Summer 2013 Polish Collection
When we got these in, the other interns and I immediately put them in front of our computer – I mean, seriously, they’re just too beautiful to be stashed away. And though I’m a fan of bold nails all year ’round, summer’s the best time to rock them. No work, no stress, no nude nails. They’re also great because they have the TEENSIEST hint of glitter in them; they catch your eye in a way that’s not too gaudy. And, as is typical with Essie, we love the adorable names for the colors!
e.l.f. Studio Lip Exfoliator
Summer can be so, so hard on your lips. Your pout bears the harsh sun, the salty sweat, and the wind blowing in your face while the windows are down. Do those babies a favor and treat them to a (super cheap!) all-in-one lip treatment. In a handy lipstick tube comes a stick of sugary exfoliators encased in a delicious, soothing balm. Just swipe on, and you’ll simultaneously get rid of dead skin AND nourish that pucker. And for just $3, how could you say no?
Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm
Honestly, I’m pretty sick of hearing about B.B. creams. In the constant race to be beauty’s best, companies are coming up with C.C. creams, D.D. creams, even B.B. creams for hair! But I’ve gotta hand it to ’em: these things are CRAZY handy for summer. Your usual sunscreen/foundation/powder/ routine can get super cake-y in the summer sun, so stick with Urban Decay’s lighter option. This miracle whip combines coverage, anti-aging benefits, hydration, brightening agents, skin smoothers, and SPF 20 to boot. You can go back to your usual foundation when the leaves begin to fall, but don’t be surprised if you decide not to!
Okay, this gorgeous stain has been out for awhile, and I’m somehow just now trying it… so impressed, and it’s officially one of my summer staples. Use it on lips and cheeks for a sexy, just-had-a-romp flush. It also lasts for hours, and won’t get messy like a lipstick would if you, you know, decide to cannonball into a pool. Just swipe on and dab with your fingers, and layer for a more dramatic effect.
Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo
Another cheap-y but good-y. Sweat and oil glands shoot into overdrive during the summer, so keep those greasies in check with my personal favorite dry shampoo. Honestly, it’s as good as any other dry shampoo at giving hair a lift and sopping up oil, but I love the kick of Keratin in this one. It makes hair feel super manageable, not like you just dumped baby powder on your head. Also, I LOVE the way it smells – it’s like an island vacation in a can!
Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Cream
Yeah, yeah, we’ve seen a million sea salt sprays by now. I love ’em, but sometimes they make my hair just a little too… stiff. So I’ve been loving on this texturizing cream instead. It’s easy to use (just scrunch into damp hair and go), flexible, and smells fantastic. Plus, we’re hoping you’ll get to soak your hair in some real salty sprays this summer! This is just to extend that look a little. 😉
Eucerin Daily Protection Moisturizing Face Lotion
And, finally, my skin savior, my summer staple that gets to see the rest of the seasons too. Let’s just say I had a year-long hunt for a daily sunscreen that wouldn’t make my skin greasy, make me break out, turn my skin a weird purplish color, etc., etc. I’ve been down that sunscreen aisle way too many times, guys, and now my trip is super quick. I love this stuff, and with SPF 30, you can rest assured that it’s keeping you fully protected. So whether you’re on the beach, in the streets, at the mall, or road-tripping in the car, don’t forget to slather on Eucerin’s sunscreen. You’ll thank me when you’re 50 going on 15!
