Winter is in full swing here in Athens, and with winter comes the highly coveted holiday party season. Countless hours trying and testing lip combinations (not to mention three holiday parties in the past week) have finally landed me here with a full report of my findings. I’m pleased to present you with three holiday lips for the girl on a budget, the girl who goes classic, and the girl who wants a little glamour.
The Girl On A Budget
Ringing in at just over six dollars, this lip combo provides comfort with a dark, matte edge. As a base, I’d recommend just sticking to good old chapstick, as these things can be a little drying. I’m talking about the Kate Moss for Rimmel Matte Lipstick in the Shade 107. This is my go-to fall/winter lipstick, as it doesn’t need much attention. It’s got a drier formula which makes application super easy (none of those “my hand slipped” smudges), and it’s got serious staying power. Coat your lips in a layer of Chap Stick (the one that’s been in your handbag for five years will do) and pat them off with a bit of tissue for an easier application and a longer-lasting pout.
The Girl Gone Classic
This look is a little bit higher end, but it’s something more Grace Kelly for those looking to be daring, but demure. As we all know, I love a lip product that goes on with ease, and the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils definitely do the job. They go on best when lips are totally dry, but let me tell you, your lipstick will not move all night. My favorite is the orangey-red, Red Square. It packs a punch but it will keep you looking vintage and classy. It’s a must have for girls who need staying power. These work best for me when I prep about 30 minutes prior with a good coat of Carmex. Let it really sink in and then apply the pencil after your lips have absorbed the moisture. Applying a little on top will help relieve the dry lip feeling as well.
The Girl Gone Glamorous
This look features one of my favorite lip products of all time. It’s the BITE Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Maraschino. Unfortunately this product is limited edition (for now), but the good news is that it’s only $12 through Sephora. This is a super moisturizing, but still matte, twist up lip crayon with a super easy application thanks to a super pointed and fine tip. This is a product that is incredibly comfortable to wear, so I’d recommend this one if you’ll be out for a while with limited touch up opportunities. I apply this one over a layer of sunken-in Carmex as well to preserve the moisturizing formula.
And of course, for easy removal, I love using the Bite Lush Lip Wipes. They smell yummy, and they remove lipstick SO amazingly. No more smudging and rubbing for you. What’s your favorite holiday lip combo?
