Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. here for a little bit, you all know how hectic the new year gets! I was actually in Chicago last week (brr, I know) for a conference and there was a tricky wifi situation which I chose to avoid entirely so sorry bout it.
Anyway, I felt the need to do an obligatory new years’ resolutions post, so I thought instead of being redundant, I’d go back and look at what my resolutions were last year.
Alright after some searching I didn’t actually write any goals for 2013. Awkward.
However, I honestly hate New Years’ Resolutions. I don’t think changing your life should be reserved for one time of year. It’s one of those things that just bugs me. If you are unhappy, do something about it. I think that we should treat every day like New Years Day. Every day should be an opportunity for you to start over, wipe the slate clean, reignite your passions, whatever it is you want to do. It’s not worth it for you to wait until one specific day to change your life. You can change your life whenever you want to! That’s the beautiful thing about this world. Whatever you want is yours for the taking, you just have to go get it.
No more of this, “2013 was shitty, but 2014 is going to be my year” nonsense. Every year is your year. I realized a couple of years ago that there’s no point in making goals at the beginning of the year. You are going to evolve and change as a person every day of your life. It’s okay if what you want in December isn’t what you wanted in January. Goals should be kept inside your head so that they cant confine you. Now, I don’t hate all goals; I firmly believe that goals are the best thing when it comes to working, but as far as personal evolution goes, just let it happen. If you want something enough, you shouldn’t have to write it down to make it real. You should just live it.
Moral of the story, a goal is only what you make it. Writing it down on a specific magical day isn’t going to make it any more powerful. Be a better person EVERY day. You are the only person holding you back from getting what you want. If you live your goals, and let them shape your thoughts and actions, they will be much more real than if you just write them in a book and check them out at the end of the year. Don’t fall for this New Years’ Resolution shit. Just choose to make yourself happier. Choose to be the person you want to be. There’s no wishing or hoping involved. Everything is action. Don’t confine yourself to one sentence, and please remember that you have the power to be everything you want to be and more.
Alright, I’m done now.
Also, on a nice note, reflect on your year. So many good things happened. Don’t forget those things. They’re very important.
