There’s no question that the beauty world is deeply fascinated by the influence of astrology. Lime Crime’s Zodiac Glitter is to die for and Fresh recently released a line of soaps based on the twelve signs, to shout out just a few star-loving lines.
Whether you believe in astrology’s impacts or not – anyone else only give in when your horoscope’s especially good? – you’ve got to admit, the signs provide some serious makeup inspiration. Since the reign of Pisces is upon us until March 20, I thought I’d read up on the sign’s traits (I’m personally a Libra) and craft a cosmetics ode to my Pisces muses.
Start with foundation, and conceal under your eyes and atop any blemishes. Fill in brows – you’ll need a nice frame for this bold eye look.
Pisces are said to be dreamy and mystical. Reflect that inner glow outward by dramatically contouring cheeks and highlighting the tops of cheekbones with a shimmery highlighter. I used the bronzer and highlighter in the Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette in Streak.
As Pisces is a water sign represented by two fish, it veers toward colors such as blue and grey; of course, I knew I’d be tackling a twist on a blue smoky eye. After priming the eyelid, use a light grey eyeshadow to cover the whole lid – except for a spot in the center, where you’ll later fill in a brighter blue shade. The third shade in the Lorac Duchess Palette is perfect for this step.
Next, use a navy shadow to fill in your creases more deeply – for this, I used the fourth shade in the Duchess Palette.
Dab a creamy, grey-blue eyeshadow in the spot you left blank earlier, using a fluffy shadow brush to blend your cream and powder shadows at the edges. Turquoise Breeze, the Kryolan cream I tapped on, is actually a liner, but works wonderfully as a stay-put shadow too.
Now for the finishing touches: use a pearly white shade, such as the first shadow in the Duchess Palette, to highlight brow bones and the inner eye. Add a sexy black cat eye, and finish with mascara. I used DHC Liquid Eyeliner EX and Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara.
Many Pisces tend to veer on the quieter side, so I knew I didn’t want my lip look to be too crazy. I dabbed on a matte, greige lipstick – Lime Crime Velvetines in Cashmere is my Holy Grail – before adding just a hint of silver glitter to the center of my lips. I used my fluffy shadow brush to lightly blend Inglot’s Body Sparkles in Silver toward the outer edges of my lips for an ombré effect.
This part is so simple. To underscore Pisces’ status as a water sign, I used a pomade to slick down the top half of my hair, giving it a wet look. I’m obsessed with Kerastase’s Baume Double Je Styling Balm. I left the ends of my hair dry and a little fluffy looking – this made the look a little more editorial to me.
Killer, right?! To all you perceptive Pisces: I salute you.
